Diamond Head House
Diamond Head House Information:
The 4,095 square foot, three bedroom, four bathroom House was built in 1911 and is located southwest of Diamond Head State Monument, in Kahala, one of Oahu‘s upscale neighborhoods. A 10 minute drive from the hustle of Waikiki, Kahala is known for a variety of residential homes, from subtle quaint to grand and luxurious, and provides an escape from the noise and crowds known to Waikiki. At the time of the filming of the series, the Diamond Head House was a $10,000/month rental.
There were 3 structures on the property. The 4,950 square foot, five bedroom, four and a half bathroom, two-story guest house fronting Diamond Head Road was built in 1944. This structure housed the Control Room and production offices during the filming of the series. The single-story main House included a basement and was renovated for the filming of the series. The Pool House had a Bedroom/Living Room, Kitchen and Wet Bar and is located next to the sea wall at the rear of the property. The Pool House was renovated into the Gym during the filming of the series. The path behind the sea wall is a Public Walkway.
As of March 2008, the Diamond Head House and guest house have been demolished. A new two story house is currently being constructed on the property. The new residence is approximately 10,000 square feet with 4 bedrooms, a master suite, exercise room, home theater and detached garage. The original pool has also been removed and a new pool is rumored to be located on the 2nd floor of the house.
The Pool House is the only original structure remaining. The Pool House was spared because new building codes prevent you from building a structure that close to the property line. The Pool House has been completely renovated and a new gate in the sea wall has been added to allow access to the Public Walkway.
The Diamond Head House was listed for sale at $7,500,000 in 2006. It appears to have sold on 11/15/06 for $6,800,000. The property is owned by Finish Line Properties, LLC, which can be traced back to Shamrock Capital Advisors. Shamrock Capital Advisors was founded by Roy E. Disney, nephew of Walt Disney.
