Washington, D.C. 20009
The 10,800 square foot, four-story Brownstone was built in 1891 and is located at the southwest corner of S Street NW and 20th Street NW in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington D.C. The Brownstone was designed by architect George S. Cooper and built by real estate developer Theodore A. Harding. After its completion, the Brownstone became home to Minnie and James Mosher, head of the freight division of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.
The Brownstone was owned by the Gospel Spreading Church until 1974, when the upper floors were converted to office, eventually housing La Labela, an Ethiopian restaurant in the 1980s, and later a Blockbuster video store located on the lower level throughout the 1990s. Owned by Douglas Development since 1998, the Brownstone was leased to the Sorg & Associates architectural firm prior to the renovations for the filming of the series.
The first two floors were renovated for the filming of the series with the production crew occupying the upper two floors. In early 2010, Papadopoulos Properties began marketing a 2,700 square foot portion of the 1st floor as available for lease. In March 2010, the Laogai Museum signed a lease for the 1st floor and HealthHIV leased the 2nd and 3rd floors. At the time, they announced plans to preserve the main entrance on the 2nd floor as it appeared during the filming of the series.
The Laogai Museum has since closed and the entire building is available for lease.
