Columbia Square Studios Information:
The 25,000 square foot, Studios B/C building is located within the Columbia Square complex in the heart of Gower Gulch. The low-rise campus was designed by Swiss-born architect William Lescaze in the style of International Modernism. Built over a year at a cost of two million dollars, it was more money than had ever been spent on a broadcasting facility at the time.
Opening on April 30, 1938, Columbia Square was the home of the CBS Los Angeles radio and television operations from 1938 until 2007. The Square's original configuration included eight studios and an auditorium capable of seating 1,050 audience members. The complex included Brittingham's Radio Center Restaurant and a Bank of America branch. On April 21, 2007, KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV left the building and moved their operations to the CBS Studio Center in Studio City, ending Columbia Square's status as a broadcast facility, one of the very few remaining in Hollywood.
In August 2006, the property was acquired by Las Vegas-based developer Molasky Pacific, LLC for $66 million. Current plans for the project include a future mixed-use development adjacent to the existing buildings.
Located in the northeast corner of Columbia Square, the set was built in the Studios B/C building for the filming of the series. For the first time ever, the Real World House was environmentally "green" including solar energy solutions, bamboo flooring, recycled glass counters, sustainable furniture, recycled vintage décor, energy star appliances, solar heated swimming pool and energy efficient lighting. Columbia Square is located 22.2 miles from the Venice Beach House, used in the filming of the second season.
In late 2008/early 2009, the set from The Real World was slightly modified and used to film VH1’s Confessions of a Teen Idol.
