LoDo Building
Home of the Real World Denver
1920 Market Street
Denver, CO 80202
LoDo Building Information:
The 21,927 square foot, two-story building is located in Lower Downtown (LoDo) Denver, a historic district and mixed-use neighborhood. Constructed in 1963, the building was most recently occupied by B-52 Billiards, a 1940s - 1950s themed restaurant/night club/billiards hall which featured a bar wrapped around the nose of a KC-97 with B-52 Bomber seats.
From 1995 to early 2000, the building was occupied by Bella Ristorante, an Italian eatery. Robert Thompson and Leigh Jones (B-52 Real Estate, LLC), the husband and wife owners of B-52 Billiards purchased the building in early 2000 and opened the establishment to the public in December 2000. B-52 Billiards closed it's doors for the final time on February 20, 2006 with little warning and no explanation to their employees.
In March 2006, Heritage Bank acquired the building, assessed at $2.2 million, from B-52 Real Estate, LLC in lieu of foreclosure. The building was then sold in late April for $2.7 million to 1920 Market Street, LLC, a holding company that included the producers of the series. The Denver LoDo building was the first property in the 18 seasons of The Real World that Bunim-Murray Productions purchased for the filming of the series. They had to receive permission from the city of Denver to temporarily rezone it from its commercial zoning status to residential.
In October 2006, Kentwood City Properties listed the building for sale for $3.3 million "as-is", and marketed the property as either residential or commercial space. On December 1, the building was sold for $3.3 million to Steve and Shane Alexander, partners in The Alexander Group, LLC. The sale included all of the furnishings that were used for the filming of the series, except for the artwork that had been on loan.
The LoDo Building has been renovated into The Abbey Denver, an elite restaurant and lounge. The grand opening is planned for August 18, 2007.
